Step-by-Step Guide to Cleaning & Maintaining Your Misting System & Nozzles

If you’re looking for a guide on how to clean your misting nozzles, you’ve come to the right place. MistAmerica’s residential and commercial misting systems are beloved by thousands around the world, and the ease of maintaining your nozzles is just one of the reasons why. Our ruby-tipped misting nozzles are easy to remove and clean, especially once you follow this guide.

As a general rule of thumb, we recommend cleaning your misting nozzles at least once per season of use. You can clean your nozzles at the beginning of spring or summer for maximum effectiveness.

1. Shut Down Your Misting System

The first step in cleaning your misting system nozzles is to disconnect your system from its water source. Turn off the pump and use the drain valve to clear out any water in the tubing.

2. Remove Your Nozzles

Once the water is turned off to the misting system, you can detach the nozzles and take them apart - either by hand or with a wrench. Make sure you keep these parts organized so you don’t lose any.

Our Ruby Misting Nozzles at MistAmerica are easy to remove and disassemble, making cleaning a breeze. These nozzles will give you years of service with proper maintenance and upkeep.

3. Soak the Nozzles in a Cleaning Solution

Once the nozzles are disassembled, separate the top and bottom parts and place only the tips in a bucket and fully submerge them in CLR. Let them soak in the cleaning solution for about 3 to 5 minutes, and then rinse them off in warm water to remove any residue. The bottom portion of each nozzle does not need to be soaked.

Please note: Do NOT try to manually scrub or de-clog your misting nozzles. The inside of the nozzle is a fraction of a millimeter wide, even the tip of a pin is 5x the size of the opening of your nozzle! You cannot manually clean out any clogs without causing damage to the nozzle’s functionality.

4. Re-Attach the Nozzles & Test Your System

Once the nozzles have soaked and you have rinsed them off with warm water, you can re-attach them to your misting and run a quick test. Do not over-tighten your nozzles, attaching by hand will be plenty tight. Be sure to re-attach the o-rings, and then run your system to make sure the nozzles are working properly.
